While the tone of the article is too personal, the conclusions seem correct albeit unfinished. It seems likely that socialism will naturally attract people who abhor personal responsibility, much as certain brands of Christianity have attracted people who want to pray for forgiveness and sin again the next day. Certain patterns of thought simply go better together than others. But are liberal thoughts the source of the pervasive everyday narcissism that threatens western civilization? Or would these people simply have attached themselves to some other philosophy?
I read an article in New Scientist some months ago that implied that political leaning was largely genetic. People were born with a certain fear of change, and drifted toward conservatism. Those who did not have this fear, drifted to the left instead.
I guess this may explain why conservatives outlive liberals, other things being equal. Open-minded people are more likely to try various hazardous activities, while close-minded people stick with the proven wholesome routines.
