So I spent hour upon hour trying to get EverQuest to install all the patches it needed. It seems it first needed to patch the patcher ... anyway, it was 3 in the night when it was finished. Then when I tried to log on, it hang. I had to reboot the computer. Next time, when I tried to create an account, it could not connect to the server. I had to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to get EverQuest off the screen and confirm that yes, the modem had logged off. This repeated a couple more times before I gave up and went to bed. Next morning I tried with the external modem. This time the computer reset itself. Somehow this does not seem to be the doing of the game - it sure isn't a viable business model, at least.
So it's not creepy yet? Follow me to work. In the EQ box was a tiny statue made of pale metal (pewter?) and I put it on top my computer monitor and forgot about it. Later in the day, for the first time in my 21 years career, several binders fell from my shelf and straight on my computer. I was delighted to find that nothing was damaged, though. Only later did I notice that the falling binders had knocked the little figurine not just off the monitor, but off the desk entirely, down between the desk and the wall.
I'm not superstitious, but this time I think the only question is: Which side of the Force?
