Paid bills.

For years I have noticed that January has more and larger bills than other months. Utilities, phone companies, banks - they all seem to be aware that humans have spent all their money in December, and striking now means the best chance of the year to get to slap on late fees. After all, unless the customer really is going into bankruptcy, late fees are pure win. They cost perhaps .01 cent in computer processing and ink. And no one is ever going to protest them, since people are ashamed of being broke.

Well, it doesn't work on me and hasn't for some years, but they are still doing their best. As long as I'm not marked as "deceased" in the National Registry, I'm assumed to be human. There ought to be some intermediate code, really. "Living dead" or something.
