Anime anima

Having watched 22 episodes of Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, I keep being forcefully reminded of C.G. Jung's theory about the archetypes of the subconscious, and in particular Anima, the man's female spirit, the keeper of the portal to the collective subconscious. Both frightening and irresistibly attractive, the Anima is a mystery and a paradox, powerful like a minor goddess and yet almost real. (Most guys projects this figure on a real woman when they fall in love. The fools.)

Guu is so very much a little Anima, right down to being the doorway to a strange and surreal land. She is always there no matter how far Hale leaves her behind, always ready to save and damn him in equal amounts. She scares him halfway to death, and yet he cannot stand being separated from her. I would be so surprised if the people who made this series were not familiar with Jung's psychology.
