Porcupine

Morning!

I had this weird dream, it is a bit hard to remember because I was so tired. But basically I was romantically involved with this girl, who for some reason I equated with one of the Davisians. (That's what happens when you go straight from Iparty voice chat to bed, I guess.) Well, she was nice enough and rather protective, but weird. Like she was trying to make me depend on her, which I really didn't. There were some beautiful nature scenes, and old cars and slow, weird villagers. It wasn't so much a story as an experience ... there was no conclusion to it, only lots of emotion.

Done!

Bought a new portable PC for SuperWoman and me. Eh. That requires a widdly bit of qualification: One at a time. The computer will reside with her after I install and test the software, and for some months - I have no idea how long. Until she can afford her own computer equipment, I guess.

I have a problem with it, though. Perhaps you can help? I installed Word97, we had a leftover one at work. But now whenever I try to start Word or Office, the machine asks for the identification key for Word2000. It seem like it refuses to run Word97 and demands that I upgrade to Word2000 immediately. I do not want to do that, since we are both used to Word97. (Actually I only use Word at work, but still, I have never seen or missed Word2000.) The new computer runs WinME, I wonder if that could be the reason? Or is it just the infamous Toshiba shoddiness that creeps up in this machine too, just like the one I already have? People keep telling me that Toshiba isn't that bad, I must have a Monday machine etc ... but if this is how it starts ...

Crosswinds.net

In other news, the incredibly bad luck of the guys at http://www.crosswinds.net has struck again, and conveniently erased all the almost 3 years of my other, long, daily journal, along with my Daggerfall fan site, my Sims fan site, and my free fantasy story. I have to admit that having followed their misadventures for a couple years, I have a hard time believing it is all due to just bad luck. It takes dedication to muck up as royally as these boys do. Then again, it was always free. Thank the Light I considered against paying for it.

On the blindingly bright side, I have all of it on my local harddisk, most of it also on a zip drive, and quite a bit on my local ISP. (No such thing for LJ, though. Not because I trust them to always be there for me, but because of the more casual nature of these notes. I guess I'll still miss them if they just vaporize into eternity, though. I shall have to take care to never say anything profound here ...)
