It is a calm, even optimistic tone that pervades this article, but there is no smoothing over the fact that everything will change. Your life a couple decades from now will not necessarily be worse, but it will be strikingly different. I concur. I have quibbles with the details, but the basics are pretty clear. Unless some much greater disaster devastates our civilization, we must and will restructure around energy saving and renewable energy. Wind and solar energy would already be profitable with the oil prices we had a year ago, but the grid (especially in the uSA) is not capable of moving energy from unfamiliar places. It is barely doing its job when everything is where it always has been. And expanding the grid means negotiating with every little farm that lies in the way of a power line, with a decade of litigation. |

2:12a | Help with The Sims 2 - (the pets) for GBA New member here, hoping to find some help, I searched through the tags and memories but couldn't find what I was looking for so I though I would post, if this isn't the place to ask my particular question let me know and I will be happy to continue looking elsewhere:) Anyways, on to the question. I have recently started playing The Sims 2 The Pets on the Gameboy Advance, Ive never really been much of a gamer girl, but I have been enjoying this game alot, my problem is that I am totally lost as to how to make money and the various FAQ's and walkthroughs I have found aren't helping me much. I was employed as a dog walker but I can't figure out the controls, and my dogs and cats always get away. Im horrible at mini games like this and it isn't as fun as the rest of the gaming experience, I was wondering if there is a code or some kind of cheat that will get me money without having to play the little mini game with the animal walking? If there isn't is there another way to earn money? Can i sell the stuff I pick up on the street or something? Im down to 300$ and I don't think I can keep the game going much longer on that... Thanks in advance to anybody who can give me some insight and happy gaming:) ((if this is to long just let me know and I will put it under a cut)) Current Mood:  awake |

1:03a | The disappearing boss... Hey! One of my Sims is in the Criminal career track, and since she got promoted to Evil Sidekick, her relationship with her boss is a factor in her job performance. I looked and it said that it was "bad", which i found odd as they were best friends. So i looked at their relationship panel to make sure she hadn't pissed her off with her Meanness or something, but she just... wasn't there at all. I clicked the Coworkers tab and all it showed was her two coworkers, not her boss. So now her Boss factor is stuck at "bad" permanently, and it's really annoying. Do you think maybe the boss got arrested and disappeared when she got taken to jail? I have heard of some Sims disappearing when arrested, but mostly teens out past curfew. I don't think she died, either... the game would've let me know, right? Oh, and i thought maybe she might have a new boss for some reason... but when she's at work there are no options to interact with a boss at all. Any ideas? It's not the most horrible thing in the world, but it is annoying. ETA: The boss does exist! But she has become an Elder--i suppose she retired. Stupid story progression. ETA more: One of her co-workers was promoted to Boss. Even though he is way below her. Peon. |

2:37a | Shopping Dilemmas Being an indecisive fellow, I figured I'd try to rally the aid of whatever casual readers I may have in relation to a few potential purchases. The first dilemma is regarding which free book out of three I ought to choose, so not really a purchase per se; the second is regarding a t-shirt; and the third is in relation to a few DVDs. 1. Books So, I've got this voucher card thingie that will give me a free book at the local geek shop in Oslo, and I've been considering which book I should get for a li'l while now. Here are the current contenders:  Lewis Carroll - The Complete Works  Necronomicon: The Best Weird Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft  The Coyote Road: Trickster Tales Any thoughts on which of these three books I should get? 2. T-Shirt I've been drooling over this t-shirt for a while:  I Eat Lions Could be fun to wear during EF. But, the price is pretty insane. The actual t-shirt sells for 25 USD, and shipping is 7 USD, so it adds up to 32 USD. That's a lot to pay for a novelty t-shirt. So, should I buy it? 3. DVDs I'm a babyfur, so I'm always keen on getting my paws on some high quality children's DVDs, particularly of the anthropomorphic variety. There are quite a lot of The Little Polar Bear DVDs out there, but I don't have much (if any) experience with them. Not too long ago I stumbled over a sale in which I could get four DVDs in the series - can't recall which ones - for a total of 200 NOK (think of it as 25 USD). Should I jump on the sale, spending 200 NOK on the four DVDs? Or are there better children's DVDs out there, more worthy of my resources? Current Mood:  hopeful |

7:59p | Oops, I boolpropped again. My sims were throwing a wedding party and I boolpropped to make their needs static since last time the bride and groom pissed themselves while exchanging vows. After the wedding, I clicked on the mailbox to make their needs dynamic again, and it worked, for all but one person in the family. All of his needs are green no matter what and I don't know how to fix it. I've tried not saving and reloading the game, but it didn't work. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks! |

My question is which files/folders/etc do I need to save/back up in order to replace them upon reinstall to ensure that I get my saved games/lots/sims back (like my current legacy)? Thanks. |

10:42a | Game crashing, please help Hey there, well I have looked through the tags and memories and mostly the issues I've read are related to corrupt cc, etc but the question I want to ask is a tiny bit different. I have all xpacs and stuff packs installed and have played without issue. I also have A LOT of CC. I generally keep it organised - catergorised into folders etc and new stuff is kept seperate until I know it works. Recently I installed a large batch of files. Some of it was downloaded seperately but there was a lot of buildings I downloaded from a well known community. Once they were installed they contained around 12,000 files alone (just the houses recently downloaded). In total, including all the new files I have about 70,000 files in my downloads folder. Anyway, when I first enter the game and go into buy mode, after a couple of clicks I get the application has crashed message. Now, usually I would sort through and find whichever piece of CC is causing this and I have used my usual method of moving all old stuff out and switching in and out the new stuff in small groups. My problem is the game isn't crashing with just the new stuff installed. When I divide it into parts it doesn't seem to crash. And it doesn't seem to crash on a certain click in buy mode (like a certain catergory or collection folder). It appears to crash only when I have all the cc in there. I can't really test this theory too much as it takes about an hour to load with all the content in (and under two minutes with no content). So, after all that rambling etc - is it possible that the game is crashing because it just can't handle all of that content? Or is it still an issue with some cc (like a house or a sim or a body shop file or something). Ive had to find broken files before to solve problems but usually its been fairly obvious where it is. I just dont know if it could crash because it cant handle the content, like if its possible to do that. (Just as a side note, when I installed the house files I did exclude any hacks contained in them and I have run the hack conflict detection utility) Thanks heaps for any help and I apologise if this question has been asked before. 3:20p | Sorry Ery! I mentioned in channel last night that it seemed @erydanus had messed up the LoLJ base because I kept finding more and more stuff that was wrong. Well, here's the thing. I found a bug. I used the pocket D portal to click MY BASE, was taken to a base, WITH THE WINDOW FOR EDITING showing in the side where I keep it. And the base was not the LoLJ base. So of course none of the containers worked for me. I did not attempt to edit the base. That might have been Edifying, if I had. I wonder if it would have crashed the base completely. Anyway, all imputations of WTF aimed Ery-wards were undeserved in the matter of base mis-editing. |

2:17p | MemcacheD Update Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries. The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website. 3:16p | ATI Radeon 4850 won't update :\ I hope this is allowed here. I'm having a driver update issue with my video card. As in, it refuses to update. The latest driver for the card is 9.6 (aka June 2009). I download it okay, and it says it updates successfully. And yet, my driver version is stuck at 8.560 (June 2008). The CCC updates to 9.6 but the actual video driver won't. I need to update though because I'm having issues in Fallout 3 (lag in open areas, even with settings on medium) and Sims 3 (hair disappearing w/vsync on, jaggy edges and screen tearing w/vsync off). If anyone could help that'd be greatly appreciated.
